Sitting along the mighty Skeena River amidst gorgeous green forests, rugged mountains and cliffs, Terrace (population: 11,320) is the perfect central base for all outdoor pursuits.
In the summer, hike, mountain bike, camp, rock climb, canoe, or kayak – all in one day if feeling adventurous. Salmon fishing is also especially popular here.
In the winter, huge dumps of snow make for incredible deep powder downhill skiing and snowboarding, cross-country skiing, snowshoeing and snowmobiling.
Outdoor ice-skating on the lakes is also possible when the weather is cold enough and the snow has been cleared. Local hot springs, developed and undeveloped, also make for fine evening soaks.
In the evening, to get a feel for local culture, check out Terrace's many pubs and restaurants. For entertainment and maybe dancing, see local musicians perform at the town's various coffee houses or at the bar on the weekends.
Walking is the perfect way to get around downtown Terrace. Colourful and easy to read maps of the city and nearby suburb Thornhill are available at the Terrace Visitor Centre. But unless visitors plan to relax in town their whole trip, a vehicle is necessary.
Terrace is a mecca for outdoor enthusiasts. The town's surrounding wilderness and beauty is everywhere you look and easily accessible. Recreational opportunities are endless for vacationing families to extreme athletes to have fun, casual and/or thrilling adventures.
Situated on the Skeena River and nestled in the Coast Mountains, Terrace offers unparalleled outdoor activities including world-class fishing, cross-country and downhill skiing (with ultimate back country experiences), white water rafting thrills, golfing with beautiful mountain scenery at every hole, endless hiking and mountain bike trails.
